Egypt Makes History: Inside the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening 2025

A Monumental Night in Cairo

On November 1st 2025, Egypt unveiled one of its greatest cultural achievements — the Grand Egyptian Museum opening in Cairo. — the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). After more than two decades of planning and construction, the GEM finally opened its doors in a dazzling celebration that brought together history, art, architecture, and national pride.

Located between the city of Cairo and the Great Pyramids of Giza, the museum stands as the largest archaeological museum complex ever built, spanning nearly half a million square meters. Its monumental scale and striking design reflect Egypt’s vision to celebrate its past while embracing the future.

The Grand Egyptian Museum opening was a defining cultural moment for Egypt and the world

A Fusion of Ancient Legacy and Modern Design

Designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, the Grand Egyptian Museum’s architecture mirrors the geometry of the desert plateau, with vast glass façades framing spectacular pyramid views.

Visitors are greeted by the towering statue of Ramses II, restored and relocated from Cairo’s Ramses Square, before ascending the Grand Staircase lined with colossal ancient sculptures — a breathtaking journey through 5,000 years of civilisation.

Inside, over 100,000 artefacts are on display, including for the first time ever, the complete collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures. The galleries combine cutting-edge technology with curatorial mastery, turning ancient history into an immersive, emotionally charged experience.
